Japanese Autumn Mochi Dessert Class

CHK Tomoko Profile.png

We would love to introduce you to two delicious original Japanese dessert recipes , Chestnut Mochi and Blueberry Mochi!

Petite round desserts made of a filling coated with a thin layer of sweet rice flour paste, these Autumn Wagashi are made with original recipes by Tomoko Yagi, Wagashi expert and food consultant for Cha-An Teahouse and many other restaurants, who will also be teaching the class.

Wagashi (和菓子 wa-gashi) are traditional Japanese confections that are often served with tea, especially the types made of mochi, anko (azuki bean paste), and fruits.

The Chestnut Mochi contains red bean paste mixed with chestnut. The Blueberry Mochi contains white bean paste mixed with cream cheese and blueberry.

Don’t miss this great opportunity!

About Tomoko Yagi:
Tomoko Yagi has been a dedicated student of the Urasenke School of sado, the Japanese art of tea. Her curiosity in wagashi, traditional Japanese sweets, stems from her tea studies, and also from her experience as a certified nutritionist in Japan. Cooking nutritious and appetizing meals for her diabetic father laid the foundation for her future work as a Japanese food consultant for various restaurants such as Sobaya, Cha An teahouse, and TIC Restaurant Group in New York’s East Village. Tomoko also teaches classes on wagashi at the Nippon Club and at Cha-An Classes. Her wagashi classes focus on the authenticity and accessibility of both ingredients and methods for the home cook in NYC, so that traditional Japanese sweets can become more ubiquitous and be enjoyed by many.

Class cancellations and delays are occasionally necessary due to weather conditions or unforeseen circumstances or under-enrollment.
